Job Summary:

The primary function of the Front End Supervisor is to provide overall day-to-day operational functionality of the department in support and in the absence of the Front End Manager; to ensure proper cash handling and loss performance by executing department protocol and company policies and procedures; to provide superior customer service; to ensure adequate receiving and stocking of Front End items and to meet objectives for sales, inventory turns, labour, merchandising.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for staff supervision and evaluation, delegation, and efficiencies within the department, at the direction of the department manager
  • May participate in the hiring, interviewing and training of new employees as well as taking on a disciplinary role, as per Big Carrot policy, at the discretion of the Department and Store Manager
  • Ensures proper product merchandising and inventory ordering is completed at the direction of the department manager.
  • Ensures the cash front is staffed: opens and closes at the appropriate time and the proper procedures are followed for cash transactions and bank deposits.
  • Assists and oversees the general maintenance and appearance of the store/cash front ensuring a safe and pleasing environment for both customers and associates; request store maintenance when required.
  • Assists the cashiers on the tills when there is a high volume of customers
  • Resolves customer complaints ensuring exceptional customer service.
  • Creates a positive environment amongst department employees, motivates staff to take responsibility and to make decisions based on experience
  • Ensures all Front End equipment is running safely and efficiently; notifies the store management of any equipment malfunctions.
  • Makes observations and documents day-to-day running of the department and confers with Department Manager on a regular basis regarding the state of the department.
  • Adheres to and enforces the operational store policies and procedures, health & safety policies and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Keyholder/ Manager on Duty responsibilities when necessary

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Ability to assist in the forecasting of sales and trends, and the budgeting of a retail department.

  • 2 Year Diploma in management or related education and/or 1+ years in supervisory position in the health food industry an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides outstanding customer service and maintains a positive work environment.
  • Processing various meats and fish into preferred and department standard portions, sausages and burgers; operate butcher's cutlery and powered equipment like grinders, band saw, mincer, etc.
  • Maintains clean and orderly work space, following health and safety, food safety, and organic certification protocols

  • Monitor the stock for buying and ordering, attending to product displays and customer needs

Job Summary:

The primary function of the Produce & Bulk Manager is to provide overall operational direction and profitability for both the Produce & Bulk Departments.  The Produce & Bulk Manager will be responsible for the development and meeting of annual objectives in budgeting, sales, inventory management, staff development and management and policy compliance of the Produce & Bulk Department, in order to maximize profit and loss performance. Customer service is a big component of this position. The Produce & Bulk Manager is accountable for enforcing all policies and procedures to ensure excellent customer service is provided and to grow the profitability of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for staff recruitment and dismissals, departmental trainings, task delegation, communicating job expectations, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and scheduling as per store policy and procedures and applicable laws.

  • This position involves managing tasks and supervising staff in accordance with Big Carrot policies, practices, and procedures and applicable laws. Responsibilities can include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, and disciplining staff; appraising staff performance; and resolving complaints.

Merchandising and Marketing Responsibilities:

  • Liaison between the Marketing and Advertising team, PR and the Standards Coordinator.

Purchasing Responsibilities:

  • Negotiates with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality and delivery of all commodity produce items; maintain positive vendor relations; evaluate vendors and investigate and recommend new sources of supply. Maintain a working knowledge of vendors, products, market availability, and delivery schedules. Perform regular market analysis and regular price comparisons with competitors.
  • Implement, update and evaluate the department’s pricing strategy in a manner that is consistent with the budgetary objectives and company wide pricing strategy.
  • Perform active category management, strategically take advantage of special deals promotional opportunities offered by suppliers, brokers, and vendors. Ensure adequate and timely supply of promoted product.
  • Weekly pricing for all TBC Produce Departments; weekly margin management to ensure to meet company margin goals; entering products into POS; resolve pricing and invoicing errors when necessary, keeping Accounts Payable informed of any errors and/or modifications.
  • Work with Merchandising and Marketing Team to ensure appropriate marketing materials for planned promotions and coordinate all department demos.
  • Work with Produce Managers on their department’s inventory management; provide technology and spreadsheet support for departments.
  • Oversee all equipment/supplies research and buying for both locations
  • Working with managers of Food Services / Juice Bar for purchasing of produce
  • Attend all Purchasing, Manager, Marketing, weekly produce check-in meetings.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety protocols, operational store policies and procedures, Organic compliance procedures, and statutory standards and regulations regarding food safety are followed.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relative management college level diploma
  • 2-4 years of relevant retail management experience in a grocery setting
  • 2-4 years of retail buying experience
  • Has the experience and ability to read and understand financial statements
  • 1 – 2 years experience in retail and/ or related management experience, relevant department experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience in organic and Non-GMO foods and products is a plus.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a talent for building customer loyalty.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate/listen.
